General Information

Scotland is situated in the northern part of the island of GB. It has 3 main regions. The Scottish Highlands are the oldest mountains in the world. Mountain lakes are called «lochs». The beautiful Loch Lomond is the largest, but Loch Ness is more famous and known much better. This is because of Nessie, a strange animal-monster that lives here, people say.
«My Heart's in the Highlands». This іs a poem is known to all Scottish people.  It was written by Robert   Burns, Scottish national poet. Every year, on the 25 of January, his birthday is celebrated in cities, towns and villages.
Everybody may make a speech and read a poem by Robert Burns.
Edinburgh is the capital of Scotland. It is an old city. It is famous for its monuments. The most famous monument is to Sir Walter Scott in the centre of the city. Edinburgh is the cultural centre of the country. Many art festivals take place there. Edinburgh festival of music and drama is held every year and many guests from Europe and England visit it.
